Well Hello, Blogland!

Wow! Has it really been over 2 months since I've posted a blog entry?!
I am so sorry my friends! Time has really caught up with my blog.
Being pregnant has taken over my love of thrifting. I find myself hitting up the baby sections of clothing stores and spending time gazing at kid stuff on Etsy!
One thing you should know (those of you who still follow this desolate blog), we had a very important doctor visit on February 19th.
We found out the sex of our little bundle.
It's a............
Yes. Our dreams came true! We are having a little boy!
Let me rewind a little bit.
At 13 weeks, when we went in for our NT scan (you can read about that here) we were given some news we kept to ourselves.
What I never shared with y'all is that our ultrasound tech told us she was 75% sure we were having a girl.
Let me back up a little further. Ha!
My husband has the cutest 4 year old daughter. I love this little girl with all of my heart! But, I have always pictured myself having a little boy. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I'm a tomboy at heart. I loved playing in the mud, eating the mud, building mud castles...I liked mud, okay!
When the ultrasound tech said girl...I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. Of course all we really want is a healthy baby but I think every mom-to-be has her heart set on a specific gender.
At that point we had nailed down a female name because we just 'knew' we were going to have a baby girl.
Fast forward to the anatomy scan on February 19th.
On the way to our appointment I was asking my step daughter how excited she was to see her baby sister. Of course she replied with, "or baby brother." I didn't have the heart to tell her she was gonna have a sister.
We finally got to the doctors office. I could tell all of the other women weren't as far along as me. I felt like the veteran of the group. And...we were about to find out the gender! :)
As the ultrasound tech was measuring body parts, she would remark with, "this is the ____ and it looks normal." etc. In the back of my mind I was thinking, "hurry up lady! Is there a penis or a vagina?!"
At one point she ran the wand across my belly and I just KNEW I saw 3 lines. The infamous 3 lines that signify the labia. I looked at my stepdaughter and said, "I know what it is.....". She got very excited and before I could say, "you're having a baby sister", the ultrasound tech blurted out, "annnnd, you're having a baby boy."
Holy s*#@&!!!! All I could do was cry! I looked at my husband and his eyes were filled with tears! It was one of the most amazing moments of my life. We were stunned! I mean, we WERE having a girl. Was she sure? Was there a you-know-what or was this just an educated guess?!
Well, ladies and gents...here is definite proof that I'm carrying a little boy...
(sorry for the grainy cell phone pic)
The ultrasound tech said, "I've seen a few of these in my day...you're definitely having a boy."
Even though we found out we're having a boy just over 3 weeks ago, I am still in amazement.
We went several weeks thinking one thing, just to turn around and find out another!
He is the best surprise I've ever had in my life.
The tech gave us a few 3D pictures. This one is my favorite.
His little hand had been covering his face the whole time until she was able to sneak in like a ninja and capture this photo. :)
I'm getting pretty darn huge!
My feet are swelling, I have headaches almost daily, I pee almost every hour of the day and I'm always uncomfortable. But, I am one proud mommy!
We've decided to name him, Easton Adam. (my husband's name is Adam)
Easton is going to be one spoiled little boy! He has so many people on his team!

I have done some thrifting but for mainly Easton's nursery. I have found some vintage Pyrex as well. You know me...I can't thrift without picking up Pyrex! :)
I will be sharing those finds with you very soon.
If you are interested, I have added a baby ticker in my sidebar. It counts down the days until my due date, July 7th! :)

I hope all of you are doing well! Again, please excuse my absence.
Happy thrifting!

Swap Partner, Blow Mold Win & My Favorite Christmas Gift

In my absence of blog land, I have received a couple very fun packages.
The first was from Sue @ It's A Very Cherry World!
In December I participated in her "Shape It Up" Christmas Swap.
We were to make a tag or ornament in the shape of a Christmas symbol.
This is what I received from Sue.
How simply gorgeous is this tag?! I couldn't choose a favorite part of...there are too many cute details. How crafty? :) This will adorn my tree for years to come!
Sue added goodies in my package. Here's a peek!
I LOVE this globe! I have a larger version of this vintage Santa.
Sue sent me so many cute vintage Christmas goodies!
I love the polka dots and gingham on this tin! It came full of Christmas candy corn. (which I devoured in the matter of a couple of days)

Thank you so much Sue! I enjoyed being your partner in your hosted swap!
If you've never visited Sue, you must head over to her lovely blog NOW! Sue hosts REDNESDAY every Wednesday. Surely you've heard of it! ;)

Also in the month of December, Deb @ ZootsuitMama held a giveaway to win a vintage Halloween blow mold! Guess who won? Moi!
I haven't won very many giveaways, or many things in general; so I am always excited for a win!
Deb has the coolest retro decor ever!
Deb's blog was one of the first blogs I ever started following. She is an inspiration for anyone who admires and collects mid-century decor!
Thanks Deb, I can not wait until next year to use my new/vintage Halloween blow mold!

I had to share with y'all one of my favorite Christmas gifts.
My husband's great Aunt is such a sweet woman.
This past spring she started making quilts for everyone in the family.
She must have been a very busy lady because she made several of these quilts. This is the quilt we received for our home.
I didn't get a picture of the inside of this quilt, but it is a fleece material. It is so comfy!
We love it! Thank you Aunt Carolyn!

Happy Thursday and happy thrifting!

How I Rang In The New Year

On Monday, New Years Eve, we began ringing in the new year at the baby doctor!
I have reached 13 weeks (the final week of my 1st trimester).
Typically they like to do what is called a NT scan between weeks 11 & 14. An NT scan (nuchal translucency) is where they check for chromosomal abnormalities such as Down Syndrome as well as major congenital heart problems.
This test is just an assessment, it is not a diagnosis.
Abnormalities tend to accumulate more fluid at the back of their neck during the first trimester, causing this clear space to be larger than average.
I am happy to say baby is looking great! I am supposed to call next week for the official results but my OB assured me all looks perfect.
We got a few laughs during the ultrasound. Baby would not turn from his/her side for nothing! We were unable to get a perfect profile picture. But, I think this 3d profile picture turned out perfect. The ultrasound tech said baby looked to be praying. :)
The tech also commented on how active baby was. He/she was kicking up a storm! Of course I couldn't feel a thing. My hubby kept saying, "You really can't feel that?" Haha!
Baby had a heartbeat of 152 bpm and measured 3 inches long. 5 inches including leg length.
We got several pics from our visit, but this is my favorite and I had to share it...

I couldn't help but giggle when the tech got this view. I shouted, "I need a picture of that!"

I know my updates have been few and far between and have had nothing to do with vintage; I apologize for that. As you can see, I have had something else pre-occupying my mind. I assure you, I will be sharing vintage goodies very soon.
I hope everyone had a great holiday and Happy New Year!
Happy thrifting!

What Is This? A Blog Post?!

Hello dear blogging buddies!
I am so sorry for my lack of blog posts lately. I have had so much on my plate lately.
I am hoping now that the holidays are coming to a close, I'll have a little more time to thrift and blog.
I hope all of you enjoyed your holiday and was able to spend time with your precious loved ones.
We had a terrific day! Hubby did very good this year! :)
Trying to make a 4 year old happy is a such a task, but I believe she thoroughly enjoyed herself.

I was supposed to have my 2nd ultrasound today. However, due to a conflict in holiday pay at work, I had to reschedule. It all worked out well though. My new appointment date is December 31st. Since my husband has a very demanding job, he is unable to attend most doctor appointments. Huge bummer! We both have December 31st off from work, so he'll be able to make it! We are so excited to see our little one!
He/she now looks less like an alien and more like a baby! :)

I want to thank all of you for being patient in my absence. I noticed I have a few new followers. Thank you for keeping up tabs on Old Fashioned Days! I can't wait to share my love of vintage with you!

Please check back very soon. ;)

The Simplest Sense

Like many of you, I have been very broken-hearted all weekend.
I have gone through many emotions. Crying, silence and anger.
I know many folks have said this is no time to bring up politics or any sort of political agenda. I absolutely agree.
I have never used this blog as an political outlet. In my opinion, that's not why I started this blog. However, I feel very strong about necessary steps on stabilizing mental health and keeping our schools as safe and secure as possible.
Like many things as a nation, the tools and resources necessary to do so could take many years to achieve.
I have my opinions of what needs to be done to reach a safer place for learning. But again, instead of stating those on my blog, I would rather say my heart goes out to the families and community of Newtown, CT.
You will not struggle alone.

Hark! Do I See Vintage Christmas?

Between a busy holiday season and being ill, time has really caught up to my little blog.
I appreciate all of your sweet comments about our little bundle.
He/she isn't so much a jelly bean anymore. I am 10 weeks as of yesterday. Bean is more like a prune now.
Isn't it funny how a fetus is described by food?
I find myself wanting to hurry December up more and more. I get to see my little prune again December 26th! I can't wait!
The more I see this Santa on my front door, the more he creeps me out. "He sees you when your sleeping, he knows where you're awake" has a new meaning now.
I love this little black shelf. I can always count on it to display things nicely.
This vintage Christmas plate was a thrifted find this past summer. Isn't the big red bow in the little girls hair so sweet? How excited is he about his new bow?
Another new addition is this Holt Howard mug. Found at my favorite thrift store.
I made this framed button Christmas tree out of my mother's vintage buttons. I got this idea from the very talented Carlene @ Organized Clutter. I think it turned out pretty cute!
Sweet vintage Christmas card for my hubby. I found it at an antique store last year.
I love his fluffy beard. The fur on this card is still very soft. The inside is signed, "With love always, Lou."
My pine cone elves have found themselves a comfy spot on my mantle this Christmas. Thanks to Elizabeth @ Creative Breathing.
I thought I'd give y'all a sneak peak at our lovely tree this year.
I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful holiday season. Now that I am no longer sick, I think we're going to tackle gift buying this weekend. Wish us luck! The stores are going to be a madhouse!
Happy Tuesday and happy thrifting!

"Is that the heartbeat?"

I had an amazing day yesterday!
I went to the baby doctor!!!
I had no idea that I was far along enough to hear the heartbeat...but we did!
I can not describe the amount of joy that went souring through me when I saw and heard his/her heartbeat.
I feel like my entire perspective on life has completely changed - just since hearing the pitter patter of God's little blessing! Today I am 8wks 4 days. Our little jelly bean has a heartbeat of 182 bpm and I am due July 7th!
 I am still on cloud 9 :)
(See the end of this post for pics of our little blessing)

I FINALLY finished decorating! It only took me 4 days!! Ha! :)
This hutch belonged to my mother. She bought it when I was very young from an antique store in Glendale, Kentucky. I begged my father for it a few years ago and he finally caved. I'm so glad  he generously gave it to me. Not only has it been a focal point in our living room but it is a memory of my beautiful mother.
I had considered stripping and painting it a couple of years ago but I am so glad I didn't!
It's rustic look is what makes it an attractive piece of history. I love it so!

This little shelf hangs near my couch. I love her bright red cheerfulness!
The ever-so popular Empire Santa blow mold!
Isn't he such a cutie?
I love this little tree. I sit it in this wooden planter every year. I think it's the perfect place for it.

Our little jelly bean made his/her debut yesterday!
Such a proud mama! :) I get to see him/her again the day after Christmas!!

Happy Thursday and happy thrifting!
