Sappy Time-Out

My husband and myself have had a very hard last few months. From the miscarriage to his back surgery and now my exsisting back issues coming to surface. We are definitely too young to be dealing with these kinds of problems. However, still being newleyweds...some had their doubts we'd make it through all of this without one of us jumping ship. These trials have done the exact opposite; it has brought us closer together.
Have you ever laid in bed late at night with your significant other and had a serious heart to heart? Well, we do all of the time. Last night we talked for a very long time. While he held me in his arms he told me how much he admired my heart and spirit. I tried my hardest to hold back the mushy tears, but nonetheless, they flowed. I told him there wasn't nothing I wouldn't do for him.
They say the first years are the hardest. Well, I say, "damn them"...they don't know us! :)

Vintage Nesting Dolls

I was toted over to the US as a baby. Yes folks, I am a proud Army brat! My father served in the military for over 20 years. While in Germany, my mother collected a lot of German crafting supplies. Those precious beauties have landed in my possession. I have so many packs of rick rack, needles, buttons, patches, spools of threads, etc. by German companies. Other than inheriting my mother's eclectic crafting supplies, I also obtained numerous goodies that she collected while over seas. One of those goodies,  Nesting Dolls...
Nesting dolls have a pretty neat history behind them. Matryoshka is a derivative of the name "Matryona" which was common among the female peasantry of old Russia. "Matryona" is in turn related to "mater," the Latin for "mother," thereby giving the nesting dolls a close connection with motherhood and fertility. The dolls, nested one inside the other, may also be seen as symbolizing the process of carrying and giving birth to a baby.
I love the fact that I found these sweet nesting dolls in my mother's things. Researching the history on nesting dolls put a big smile on my face.

Elvis nesting dolls!!!

LOL!
Happy Tuesday everyone! :)

Relaxin' In My Nook

I am a firm believer that every woman should have her own nook. Of course used for whatever reason she wishes. I so happened to be reading this morning in my nook.

I love this old quilt. It's falling apart but it still looks charming.
Tea always tastes better in vintage Melmac, on a Fiestaware saucer and stirred with a Fiestaware spoon.

Hope everyone is having a splendid day!

Ode' to Hunks of the Past

There will never be a time again like the 30's, 40's or the 50's. I think that goes without saying.
But do they make men the way they used to? I know we all love and admire our hubby's or significant others, but lets face it...men were made differently years ago. Women too, but those men...hubba hubba!
I'd like to pay homage to some of the men whose pictures would have been plastered all over my walls!
Marlon Brando
Clark Gable
James Dean
Robert Wagner
Elvis Presley
Ricky Nelson
Gregory Peck

Phew, it's hot in here :)
Happy Hump Day!

Nanner Puddin'

Who doesn't love Banana Pudding?! I was practically raised on it.
It's easy, inexpensive and oh so yummy!
I decided to make it this past weekend.
It was the first time I ever made it using Pyrex. How exciting! :)

Please excuse the quality of these cell phone pics :(
