Happy All Hallows Eve!

This is absolutely one of my favorite days of the year!
From my family to yours...
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
"All houses wherein men have lived and died
Are haunted houses. Through the open doors
The harmless phantoms on their errands glide,
With feet that make no sound upon the floors.
We meet them at the door-way, on the stair,
Along the passages they come and go,
Impalpable impressions on the air,
A sense of something moving to and fro.
There are more guests at table than the hosts
Invited; the illuminated hall
Is thronged with quiet, inoffensive ghosts,
As silent as the pictures on the wall.
The stranger at my fireside cannot see
The forms I see, nor hear the sounds I hear;
He but perceives what is; while unto me
All that has been is visible and clear.
We have no title-deeds to house or lands;
Owners and occupants of earlier dates
From graves forgotten stretch their dusty hands,
And hold in mortmain still their old estates.
The spirit-world around this world of sense
Floats like an atmosphere, and everywhere
Wafts through these earthly mists and vapours dense
A vital breath of more ethereal air.
Our little lives are kept in equipoise
By opposite attractions and desires;
The struggle of the instinct that enjoys,
And the more noble instinct that aspires.
These perturbations, this perpetual jar
Of earthly wants and aspirations high,
Come from the influence of an unseen star
An undiscovered planet in our sky.
And as the moon from some dark gate of cloud
Throws o’er the sea a floating bridge of light,
Across whose trembling planks our fancies crowd
Into the realm of mystery and night,—
So from the world of spirits there descends
A bridge of light, connecting it with this,
O’er whose unsteady floor, that sways and bends,
Wander our thoughts above the dark abyss."

-Haunted Houses

Craigslist Goodies & Weekend Retro Finds

Happy Monday blogging buddies!
Last week I contacted a seller on Craigslist about her retro lamp for sale.
How rare is it that you strike up a friendly conversation with a complete stranger?
I talked to Penny for almost an hour that night.
She filled me in on the history behind the lamp she had to offer. So neat to know exactly where your "new" finds originated from.
As we were discussing plans to meet up, I discovered she loved Primitive/Country decor. I had a lot of Primitive decor just sitting in an extra room.
She offered to make a trade for the items. That's exactly what we did.
I was so pleased to meet Penny and her daughter. What lovely folks!
Penny does not have a blog, but she is a reader.
Thank you Penny...you truly are a kindred spirit.
Isn't this lamp a beautiful piece of mid-century art?
Aren't those swirls to die for?! The shade was way more gorgeous than I had expected!
Penny also offered me this mid-century alarm clock that belonged to her parents.
It now sits in my bedroom.
My favorite Craigslist finds to date! :)

I had a little extra time this weekend to sneak off to the antique stores in a nearby town.
My husband is so darn cute. I bought this vintage-inspired radio Saturday morning. Later that evening he high-jacked the radio to the kitchen and cooked my step daughter and I dinner while listening to it. AND used my Pyrex!
So cute...he really is my favorite person! :)
How incredibly beautiful is this Fire King Vitrock Tulips grease jar? I had to have it!
Now I need the matching S&P shakers.
Speaking of S&P shakers.....
I found an item on my wish list!!!!
Isn't it such an amazing feeling when you can check off a long-awaited item?
I have been eye-ing these 1958 Holt Howard cat S&P shakers on every and any web site I can view them on. Now all I have to do is walk into my kitchen! :)
Oh Fiestaware! I love everything about you!
I like to mismatch Fiesta. I think that is part of it's fun!
These colors just so happen to be my favorites. Turquoise and Persimmon :)

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I know we enjoyed ourselves!
Jack-O-Lantern we carved! Isn't he scary?

This is a very special giveaway because I am giving away Fire King Jadeite.
Yes, you read that correctly...Jadeite.
You may be asking yourself, "is she nuts to give that away?!!!"
My answer...no way! When I first started this blog I had NO idea I would be as dedicated to it as I am now. Nor did I think that I'd have followers.
Every one of you has brightened my day at some point in time. And with the crazy year I've had, this blog has given me happiness. For that, I thank you tremendously!
You have a chance to win a vintage doggy, vintage hankie and Fire King Jadeite Jane Ray teacup set.
The rules to this giveaway are simple:

-You MUST be a follower of my blog

Any Suggestions?

Howdy there my blogging buddies!
I am making a trip up to Cincinnati in a couple of weeks and I need your help.
Does anyone know of any sweet thrift stores in the Milford/Loveland area?
Very rarely when I go to visit family in Ohio do I have the time
to do a little shopping.
This trip, I will be spending a few days there. So, I should have
plenty of time to sneak out and visit some local stores!
I think most of you know I am more into the home decor vintage and not so much into
vintage clothing.
I did a search for thrift stores in that area and I seem to be coming up with mainly
vintage clothing shops.
I know someone HAS to know of a diamond in the rough somewhere! :)
Any help would be very appreciated!

Happy Thrifting everyone!

Glendale Crossing Festival Finds

Yesterday I blogged about visiting Glendale, Kentucky for their annual Glendale Crossing Festival.
I scored tons of fun things! So many that I have decided to show you
all of them in a couple different entries.
Enjoy!
I had a mini coronary when I saw this Fire King Jadeite bubble bowl!
I almost hit the floor when I saw the price.
$7!!! Yes, a bowl that typically sells on Ebay and Etsy for $50-$60, I bought for
a measly $7.

The vintage Christmas ornaments were in a zip lock bag with a pretty little 1.99
sticker on it. I swooped them up with the quickness before anyone even thought about touching them!
I was a little unsure about what I should use the bubble bowl for.
It's not a very deep dish.
So now it sits next to my couch on an end table.
It serves as a candy dish :)
I think I will fill it with ornaments at Christmas time.
(I didn't find this at the festival but I wanted to show you the sweet picture I found in my
mother's picture stash. I think these ladies are family of mine. My mother was a Genealogist and had loads of family pictures from many decades ago. Don't these ladies look adorable?)
Vintage hankie, .59. I'll keep it in my pocket for the cold season that's about to hit us.
Linens with a pretty price tag were few and far between at this festival.
I think everyone has caught onto us...
Vintage tea towel, 2.00.
Vintage tea towel, 2.25.
As I was making my rounds around the 500 + booths at the festival. I happened upon a booth where
a lady had vintage tablecloths. I put a little giddy-up in my step and shot over to the booth.
With sadness I learned they were all reproductions :(
Shhhh....don't tell anyone!
Reproduction Santa Clause tablecloth, 8.00.
I tried my hardest to visit all of my favorite antique stores while at the festival.
This was a very difficult task. It was a madhouse in the small town!
I did manage to squeeze my way through my favorite store while there.
I always visit the booth I got these potholders from, but have never seen them.
She must have put them out just for the festival.
Vintage crochet potholders, 1.50 each.
Are you ready for the Christmas-y, Vintage-y goodness?!
How simply gorgeous are these?
My kitty decided to have a looksie while my back was turned.
I sat her down and had a heart to heart.
I told her if she dared to bust up my Shiny Brites, I would find her a new home.
Lol, not really...but seriously, she better keep her paws off of them!
I usually buy plastic ornaments because all of us cat lovers know they think our Christmas trees are an indoor tree house.
Vintage Shiny Brite Christmas ornaments, 3.50.

Please check back this week for the rest of my
goodies! Happy Thrifting!
